DOP Thierry Rollin has specified Robe ColorSpot 1200 AT and ColorWash 575 AT fixtures for the popular French TV show Combien ça Coûte?. The show is produced by Paris-based Coyote Productions, and recorded at la Plaine Saint Denis.

Rollin chose Robe’s because of the brightness, speed and easy operation and their ability to operate in high ambient temperatures with complete reliability. The low fan noise was also a key element in fixture choice.

Presented by news anchorman Jean-Pierre Pernaut, Combien ça Coûte? occupies two hours of prime time each month on the French national TF1 channel, where it has topped the ratings since 1991. The show takes a frank look at scams, rip-offs and wasted public money, examining the wheeling and dealing that goes on behind the scenes. Its unique style combines a mix of recorded reports, investigative journalism and live studio audience reactions.

In the studio, the fixtures are rigged in the ceiling, and the challenge with lighting is to create a soft and powerful lighting ‘atmosphere’. The wide beam angle of the 26 ColorWash 575s makes it possible to cover the whole set while the 22 ColorSpot 1200ATs can be used to focus on the presenter and studio contributors.

The Robe’s are operated by Stéphane Lavieille using a grandMA, and are used for a wide variety of effects.
