Teatro Municipal de Las Condes in Santiago de Chile, regarded as one of the finest theatres in Chile, has purchased a quantity of Robe ColorSpot and ColorWash 700E AT moving lights, which were supplied by Robe's Chilean distributor Valook in a deal co-ordinated for them by Leo Macaya.
The first use of the new lights was by the theatre's resident lighting designer, Yury Canales for a high profile production of the classic musical "Cabaret" recently staged at the venue.
Teatro Municipal de Las Condes prides itself on high quality production values, and had been looking to invest in the latest moving light technology for some time to replace their existing stock. They underwent a lengthy evaluation process from which Robe was the brand selected.
“Robe was a clear winner because of the smooth colour mixing and wide range of colours, the incredible beam angles and because they are so quiet - almost silent - and therefore ideal for dramas as well as the noisier performances!" states Canales, adding they are already so pleased with the performance of the Robes that they will be making a further purchase by the end of the year.
He adds that he was also very impressed by the interest, commitment, knowledge and expert advice received from Leo Macaya at Valook, who was always helpful in providing them with units to look at and set up several demos.
Macaya explains that they were also looking for reliability. The theatre has a busy schedule of producing and receiving shows and obviously wanted to ensure that their investment would be a wise and a long term one. "Robe fitted the bill in every criteria," he states.
For Cabaret, Canales used the fixtures for numerous effects and functions - at times creating fabulously invigorating, colourful environments for the big production numbers, and at others, accentuating the stark truths, underlying threats and impending darkness at the base of Cabaret's complex storyline loosely wrapped in frivolity. The lighting was operated by Osvaldo Aracena using an ETC Congo console.
"Having the Robes will make a huge different to the facilities we can offer, both for our own shows and those who visit,” says Canales with pride. Teatro Municipal de Las Condes' chief technician Pablo Villalabeitia was particularly interested in getting the most reliable brand onboard, and so Robe is already proving a good choice in this respect.
Valook has enjoyed considerable success in establishing Robe in the burgeoning TV market in Chile, and Macaya says. "Theatre is very much a growing and active market here. People enjoy visiting the theatre, and venues are realising how much additional flexibility and options that using the latest technology can bring".
