Twenty-four LEDWash 600s are rigged in the three main LX trusses which are gently curved and positioned behind and above the band.

LEDWashes have played an important part of the design since the tour began in May 2012, and have been incorporated into its different design permutations including this one, for which Rob and George Sinclair assisted Ed with set design in the form of banners, kabuki drops and risers.

The current lighting design takes elements of the previous designs and also moves the whole show forward into new realms of presentation for arena venues.

Ed – first turned on to the creative prospects of Robe products by Ian Turner from GLS - claims he is “Addicted” to the rings of the LEDWash 600, which he runs in Mode 1. This enables individual control of each ring … and the creation of some truly funky and mesmeric effects.

He loves the numerous different types of beams that can be produced by combining various layers of rings and the zoom function!

“Thanks to the rings and zoom configuration, I can achieve little or no light leakage by using the inner dot of the LED with a wide zoom – it fits perfectly,” he enthuses.

The LEDWash 600s are utilised in the show as general stage wash lights and for highlighting the audience. He also points them down at a collection of Skypans on the deck, effectively changing the colour of these by proxy via the LEDWashes.

Another favourite effect is using the outer ring in a tungsten colour combined with the 5K Skypans. “You really can’t tell that they are LED fixtures and this accentuates the ‘vintage’ vibe beautifully,” he expands. Retro is one of a number of themes congruous in the tour’s visuality.

Ed programed and is controlling the lighting on a Chamsys MQ100 console with two wings.

Lighting equipment for this leg of the tour is supplied by London based Neg Earth.

Working closely with Ed is ‘touring right hand man’ Moonunit. Rob Sinclair - whose current design for The Human League features the first Robe ROBIN DLF Wash fixtures to tour in the UK - was the show’s Visual Consultant, and Ross Stirling at Studio Juice designed the eye-catching backdrops and drapes.
